Do you get tired of the same old routine? Maybe your appliances do, too! Let your clothes dryer break free of its circular run around with your garments and linens. End the cycle of boredom, and treat your dryer to some variety by letting it tackle these tasks:
- Don’t have time to iron a shirt before going out? Toss it in the dryer and let it spin on a warm temperature setting for five minutes. The wrinkles will be gone. For best results, spritz clothing with a little water beforehand.
- Dry your sneakers quickly instead of setting them out for hours. Some newer clothes dryers include a rack that slides into the drum, so you no longer have to worry about clunky items loudly banging around in the machine. Or suspend sneakers inside the dryer by shutting the appliance door on the shoelaces, trapping them at the top; this prevents the shoes from tumbling around.
- Eliminate pests like bedbugs and lice by tossing sheets in on the hottest temperature setting for at least half an hour.
- Likewise, tossing pillowcases in the dryer on a hot setting can eliminate cold and flu germs between washings.
- Down pillows and comforters fluff up nicely with a short spin on moderate heat. Toss in a few clean tennis balls for added punch.
New dryer technology
Each year, clothes dryers become more energy efficient, with current models using 20% less energy or better.
Some newer models connect to the cold-water tap, allowing the injection of a small amount of water to steam items, helping wrinkles melt away.
